Mary Meeker’s internet trend presentations are always fascinating, particularly for data geeks. The latest from today. But I’d love to see more talk about non-advertising-based monetization models. It’s clear that building a business on a one-time transaction 99 cent app is a fool’s goal. So what then? Ultimately somebody other than Apple and game studios and those with business/products optimized for ads will need to make money on mobile, else innovation will dry up… right?
“It used to be that we imagined that our mobile phones would be for us to talk to each other. Now, our mobile phones are there to talk to us.” Sigh. Very much the same thread that Joe Kraus pulls on in his wonderful ‘culture of distraction’ talk I posted yesterday. Let’s fix this.
